New Game Plus and 66 Days mode
Facts checked 2026-10-28
New Game Plus unlocks after your first completion and carries your arsenal forward. 66 Days is the endurance mode: 66 lives, one lost per death, save wiped at zero.
New Game Plus unlocks after you finish Phantom Blade Zero once. It carries your arsenal forward, raises the ceiling on what you can upgrade, and unlocks the mode the story is named after: 66 Days.
It is not required for the platinum. It is the reason to keep playing after the credits.
What carries over
| Carried | Not carried |
|---|---|
| Weapons and their upgrade levels | Story progress |
| Phantom Edges and Tempers | Region access |
| Accessories | Quest states |
| Permanent shard upgrades | Fast travel points |
The practical effect is that a second run starts with your build intact and the story reset. That is the right way to see the alternate Tale outcomes and the endings you did not reach the first time.
Why a second run is worth it
Three reasons, in order of value:
- The endings. Eight conclusions, decided by Tales. A second run lets you resolve the chains you skipped without grinding weapons again.
- The challenge content. High-tier challenge locations and hidden realms are the gate on the true ending, and they are much fairer with a level 30 blade.
- Hellwalker. Bosses that adapt to your style are a different game when you already know their tells; the difficulty page explains what changes.
66 Days
66 Days is the endurance mode. It uses Hellwalker's adaptive boss behaviour and adds a counter: 66 lives, one lost per death, save wiped at zero.
It is available after your first completion, and it has no trophy attached. That is worth knowing before you commit: the mode is for the experience, not the platinum.
:: warning Back up your save before starting 66 Days if your platform allows it. A wiped save is a wiped save, and the mode does not offer a second chance at the counter.
